Camping Options

Most campgrounds don't take reservations. Campgrounds close to the start will be full by Friday evening. Consider arriving before June 12 to be sure to get a spot. Why not come for the whole week before the ride and get acclimated to the altitude?
Caltrans, CHP, and the Sheriff's Department will not allow anyone to spend the night parked on the shoulder of nearby highways and roads. If you just want a place to park and sleep in your car, see the Airport Rd. Overnight Area below.

Turtle Rock Park
Camping is available at Turtle Park but only in designated campsites (no camping in the parking lots). There are just 28 combination RV / tent sites (RV's up to 35' $15/night) and 12 tent-only sites in designated tent area ($10/night). Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Airport Rd. Overnight Area
The second closest camping area to the start is an undeveloped campground bordering the county landing strip just off Airport Rd. There are no facilities so this is only suitable for those who are self contained or just need a place to sleep instead of the TRP parking lots (which will be closed to overnight stays). Park under the trees and do not pass the signs that indicate you are entering airport land.

Indian Creek Reservoir
Best option if you're camping and want a post-ride shower. This campground is a little further along Airport road close to the start. There are 19 combination RV / tent sites (RV's up to 34') and 15 tent-only sites with parking nearby. The restrooms have flush toilets and hot shower (fee). There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Crystal Springs
Located on CA88 just west of Woodfords. There are 20 combination RV/tent sites (RV's up to 22'). There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Grover Hot Springs State Park
Located at the end of Hot Springs Road four miles west of Markleeville. There are 76 sites all near piped drinking water and restrooms. There is a daily Fee. Campsites may be reserved by call (800) 444-7275. Hot Springs, changing rooms and showers available. Hours vary - please call (530) 694-2249 for current operating hours.

Markleeville Creek
Located off CA89 one mile south of Markleeville. There are 10 tent sites with water and vault toilets. There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Snowshoe Springs
Located on CA88 five miles west of Woodfords. There are 13 combination RV / tent sites (RV's up to 16'). The restrooms have flush toilets and hot shower (fee). There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Kit Carson
Located on CA88 six miles west of Woodfords. There are 12 combination RV / tent sites (RV's up to 22'). The restrooms have flush toilets and hot shower (fee). There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Silver Creek on Ebbetts
Located on CA4 east of Ebbett's Pass. There are 31 combination RV/tent sites with water and vault toilets. There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Hope Valley Resort Campground
Located on CA88 in Hope Valley along the West Fork Carson River. There are combination RV / tent sites some with RV hookups and one housekeeping trailer available. There is a daily fee. Hope Valley
Located on Blue Lakes Road 3 miles south of Hwy 88. There are 19 combination RV / tent sites (RV's up to 22'). The restrooms have flush toilets and hot shower (fee). There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations.

Hope Valley Group Campground
Located on Blue Lakes Road 3 miles south of Hwy 88. There are 3 combination RV / tent sites (RV's up to 22') for up to 16 people and 4 vehicles with water, vault toilets, tables and firepits.. There is a daily fee.

Lower Blue Lakes
Located on Blue Lakes Road 12 miles south of Hwy 88. There are 16 combination RV / tent sites with water and vault toilets. There is a daily fee. Sites are available on a first-come basis--no reservations. Information at 916-923-7142. Daily Fee.
